Beware of EU funding scam, say police

THE POLICE are warning the public to be vigilant after con artists, supposedly acting on behalf of a commercial bank, took €700 from an unsuspecting victim.

According to the police report, two women who claimed to be working for a bank convinced him to pay them €700 as he had allegedly qualified to receive €12,000 in funding from an EU scheme.

Following this scam and other efforts by con artists to deceive people, police have warned the public to be careful when making any transactions and not to trust strangers so easily.

Anyone suspicious of a scam should contact any local police station or call the citizen’s helpline on 1460.
