47-year old remanded for arson

A 47-year old man was remanded for three days by the Paphos district court yesterday, pending an investigation on the arson of a betting shop.

Police said the fire broke out at 2:00 a.m. and caused extensive damage to the betting shop, but fire department officers put it out before it could damage the adjacent buildings.

Initial police investigation pointed to the direction of arson as the cause of the fire.

The betting shop owner, a local 25-year old, said that he opened his business just 20 days ago and that his father was in charge.
