FM monitoring Turkish research vessel

The Foreign Ministry said it is monitoring the activities of the Turkish research vessel “Barbaros Hayrettin Pasa” that will be conducting offshore seismographic surveys near occupied Karpasia and Famagusta bay, as well as parts of the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone, until December 18.

The ministry said that despite Ankara’s provocations, the government will continue to explore and exploit the natural gas reserves in its EEZ, in line with the Convention of the Law of the Sea and its national law.

After Cyprus decided to explore hydrocarbon reserves within its EEZ, Turkey has escalated its provocations with the EU and the international community criticising Turkey’s actions.
