A minute with Dr Nicolas Costantinou, pianist

Where do you live?
I live in Nicosia.

Best childhood memory?
The Sunday morning cinema visits with my father and brother to see Tweety bird chased by Sylvester the cat, and after that going to fly airplane models with my godfather.

Most frequented restaurant and absolute favourite dish?
Most frequented restaurant would be Kitchen Bar and favourite dish is undoubtedly a nice big juicy steak with greens and avocado salad and Aubergines au gratin!

What food would you really turn your nose up to?
I don’t like food that is dipped in sauces!

What did you have for breakfast?
Are you sure you want to know? Rib-Eye steak with raw cashew nuts and a cucumber.

Would you class yourself as a day or night person? What’s your idea of the perfect night/day out?
I love the sun in the winter, so definitely a day person during the winter, but more a night person in the summer. True, I can get more work done during the evening rather than the mornings. Can’t seem to find my pace fast enough before midday.

Best book ever read?
I mostly read academic books, related to my field of research and performance interests which include studies in Hungarian music of the mid-19th century to mid-20th century, as well as books on the music and style of Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Chopin as well as the Baroque period in general. As far as page turners are concerned, the last book that I have read and found interesting was the book by Irvin D. Yalom When Nietzsche Wept. Ι found interesting the way a number historical well known persons could have interacted with each other at the fin-de-siecle.

Favourite film of all time?
Cant remember any at the moment….

Best holiday ever taken? What’s your dream trip?
Madeira & Dubai in January! It was just wonderful, exotic and amazingly relaxing. Dream trip would be Japan!

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
Whatever the guy in the next car is listening to at full blast with open windows at the red lights wondering whether he thinks he is cool.

What is always in your fridge?
Eggs, steaks, green beans, chicken, broccoli, sweet potatoes, ginger, apples, pears, almond milk.

Dream house: rural retreat or urban dwelling? Where would it be, what would it be like?
Haven’t given it any thought, but definitely, somewhat rural but not far from urban.

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?
Johann Sebastian Bach! He wrote such celestial music conversing with him must be so very educating.

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?
Play the piano!

What is your greatest fear?
Not progressing!

Tell me a joke…
Too dirty to write here… lol

Nicholas will be joined by Nikos Pittas (violin) on Saturday for a concert of Beethoven works, 7.30pm at the Pallas Theatre
