Emba residents protest over antenna

Residents from Emba, and members of the town’s community council, gathered outside Paphos district administration offices on  Thursday at 10am in protest at the installation of a new mobile phone antenna.

Emba’s residents are protesting after the town planning department authorised Paphos’ district officer to allow a mobile phone antenna, belonging to state telecoms provider CyTA, to be installed on the roof of a building in the town’s centre.

They expressed their concern that another private company’s antenna had been set up at a distance of 100 metres from the proposed site, stating that they held concerns for the health and safety as antennas emit electromagnetic waves.
