Santa-thon in downtown Nicosia

ONE thousand Santas will be let loose in the streets of Nicosia on December 28, as a part of a charity event organised by Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CyTA) to support the neonatal screening programme of the centre for preventive pediatrics.

Under the banner ‘Communication is every child’s right’, CyTA will sponsor a thousand people dressed in Santa Claus costumes to run a marathon through the centre of the capital.

Volunteers, who according to a press release from CyTA consist of associates, businessmen, clients and friends of the semi governmental organisation, are required to report on 3pm at the CyTA parking lot on Naxos Street.

From there, the Santas will run to the CyTA shop in Onasagorou Street, where drinks will be served for all those attending.

Police will make special arrangements for all who want to witness the event, closing off streets and placing protective barriers along the route.

CyTA also announced that free parking would be available throughout the day for all clients.

The neonatal screening programme is available for free to all newborns. The aim of the programme is to diagnose poor hearing in babies so as to give them a better chance to develop communication skills. The programme is available at every hospital in Cyprus.
