Tourism arrivals down in November

November saw fewer tourists arriving to Cyprus but slightly more local residents travelling abroad than November 2012, two Statistical Service reports showed on Monday.

The report on arrivals, states that 81,542 tourists visited Cyprus in November, marking a decrease of 2.9 per cent when compared to November 2o12’s 84,020.

The largest decreases were recorded in arrivals from Germany with 33.2 per cent (7,475 arrivals compared to last year’s 11,188) and Greece with 18.3 per cent (8,411 arrivals compared to last year’s 10,301).

The biggest increases were recorded in arrivals from Russia at 7.9 per cent (11,665 arrivals compared to last year’s 10,806) and the UK with 3.5 per cent (30,413 arrivals compared to last year’s 29,392).

A decrease of 2.5 per cent was also recorded for the period January to November 2013 relative to last year’s corresponding period (2,350,576 arrivals compared to last year’s 2,410,136).

The second report, also issued on Monday, records a 0.2 per cent increase in Cyprus residents returning from a trip abroad during November 2013 (66,737) versus November 2012 (66,619).

The biggest increase was recorded in trips to Russia with 2 per cent (3,225 in November 2013 compared to 3,162 in November 2012).
