SBA police catch Famagusta area burglar

A 29-year-old Romanian man was arrested by Sovereign Base Area (SBA) police on Tuesday in the Ayios Nicolaos region near Limassol in connection to eight burglaries committed in the Famagusta district.

Around noon on Tuesday, the 29-year-old was stopped outside a supermarket in the area by officers and was searched. They found tools in his possession which are used for burglaries and was arrested.

From the CCTV footage it appeared that this was the same man who was caught on camera committing a robbery in Protaras earlier this month, police said.

Between December 2 and 5 a total of 12 burglaries and thefts were committed in the Protaras area.

The 29-year-old was then handed over to Famagusta CID where according to the police, he admitted to eight separate burglaries in the area.

He is due to be taken before Famagusta district court on Wednesday to decide on his remand.
