Downer visit postponed

UN Special Adviser to Cyprus, Alexander Downer, has postponed his scheduled visit for two days.

UNFICYP spokesperson Michel Bonnardeaux told the Cyprus News Agency. “He [Downer] has delayed his arrival for 48 hours for personal reasons,” he said.

The UN diplomat, who was expected to begin a new round of contacts on the island on Monday in an effort to bridge the gap between the two sides rescheduled his meetings on both sides of the divide.

The latest effort to resume the stalled peace talks began last September but movement has stalled over the lack of agreement on a joint statement that was designed to kickstart the negotiations.
