A fifth convict was found hanged in his prison cell in block 2B at approximately 2.30am Tuesday.

The convict, a 28-year-old Bulgarian, was convicted in 2010 of rape and was serving a 12 year sentence.

According to acting prisons governor Giorgos Tryfonides prison wardens had inspected the inmates cell at 2am on Tuesday without noticing anything suspicious but half an hour later they discovered him hanging dead in his prison cell. He added that the inmate had been examined by a physchiatrist yesterday.

In another twist to the whole prison saga Tryfonides said on a morning TV news show that contrary to what Justice Minister Ionas Nicolaou said yesterday he never asked to be relieved of his duties and that he has no intention of stepping down.
