Woman arrested in connection with online betting

Police in Nicosia have arrested a 26-year-old woman who manages a betting shop for operating without a licence and for running illegal online horse and dog races.

Officers from the crime prevention unit raided the shop and initially found six computers that were being used for illegal online gambling purposes and a number of televisions that were transmitting dog races from abroad.

A further search revealed two more computers being used for online gambling and betting on horse and dog racing on an illegal betting site.

Officers confiscated €716 in cash, eight computers and five monitors.

The 26-year-old manager was arrested while seven people within the betting shop were found to have outstanding fines.

Ayios Dometios police station is investigating the case.
