A 35-YEAR-OLD man from Sotira village, Famagusta, is wanted in connection with the investigation into the arson of a 26-year old man’s car on Monday. The 35-year old is also wanted for suspected drug use, after police discovered clothes in his house that contain traces of controlled narcotic substances.
According to the police report, the arson was reported around 2am by the mother of the 26-year old, who saw her son’s car catch fire in the family garage. The fire caused extensive damage to the rear of the car.
Fire department officials said that the fire was a result of arson, after discovering traces of gas.
The police suspected the 35-year old and issued a search warrant for his house in Sotira. Officers who conducted the search said that the 35-year old was nowhere to be found. He is currently wanted and he has been included on the stop list.
In the presence of his wife, police had to break down a locked bathroom door for which the woman said she had lost the key. After entering by force, police officers discovered objects relating to the arson as well as some clothes that contain traces of controlled narcotic substances.
In related news, police have no suspect for a second arson case in Paralimni, Famagusta. A car belonging to a 28-year-old woman, which was parked behind a nightclub in Paralimni, caught on fire and was completely destroyed.
