Over 500 motorcyclists killed on the roads since 2000

Over 500 motorcyclists have been killed or seriously injured in road accidents since the year 2000 REACTION Youth for Prevention said on Monday.

“Backed by these shocking figures for Cyprus, motorcyclists are one of the most high-risks groups when it comes to road safety,” the organisation said.

It also announced an alliance of ten motorcycle clubs across the island in a joint effort to reduce such accidents. The campaign will begin on March 1 and run until the end of the year.

Particularly important will be the focus on education of both motorcyclists and car drivers. The campaign will target schools, associations, municipalities and communities.

“Often, motorcyclists involved in road accidents are not at fault but they are the ones paying the highest price,” said REACTION head, Marios Stavrou.
