Thieves siphon 100 litres of diesel from tanker

Police are investigating the theft of 100 litres of diesel fuel from a tanker parked outside the house of a 54-year-old in Nikoklia village in Paphos.

Two men aged 20 and 21 were arrested in connection with the case.

According to the police report, late on Sunday evening, the 54-year old owner of the tanker saw a vehicle parked beside his. When the vehicle remained there for a long time, the 54-year old went out to investigate but the once he exited the house the culprits left.

The man said he saw two young men inside the car. Upon closer investigation, he realised that a large amount of diesel had been siphoned out of his tanker.

He notified the police and went on to chase the car by himself. The man discovered the vehicle parked on a road leading to the village. In the back of the car he found seven large containers. Four of them were filled with diesel.

Police arrived shortly at the scene. After a couple of minutes, according to the report, the two suspects returned to the vehicle and were taken into  custody.

Police also found in the car a long black hose and nine hunting shotgun cartridges.
