From tomorrow until Sunday the 9th Annual Session of the Mediterranean Model United Nations (MEDI.M.U.N.) will be hosted by the English School Nicosia, attracting over 250 students from 22 schools from Cyprus and Greece.
MEDI.M.U.N. is the first United Nations simulation to be held in Cyprus and is one of the most respected in its field. Aimed at motivated young people between the ages of 15 and 19, MEDI.M.U.N. is one of over 400 MUN conferences held around the world. Attending the conference is beneficial to all participants as it teaches them valuable skills, promotes diversity and helps cultivate a fundamental belief in human rights.
The formal opening ceremony will take place tomorrow at 11.30am in the English School main hall, where a significant number of ambassadors and other guests will be attending. This year, the conference will be opened by Lisa Butttenheim, UN Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus. The keynote speaker will be Dimis Michaelides, Managing Director of Performa Consulting.
During the conference, students will have the opportunity to use and develop skills such as resolution writing, debating, the preparation of speeches, public speaking, researching and lobbying. Students will use all these skills during the numerous debates that will take place while voicing their opinions on important issues around the world.
