Bad weather in Larnaca diverts flight

All clear to land at Paphos

An Aegean Airlines aircraft en route to Larnaca had to land at Paphos airport on Friday due to extreme weather conditions, said police.

The aircraft was flying from Athens. According to a police report, the aircraft was supposed to land at Larnaca at 3.40pm but was forced to divert.

Larnaca residents saw some heavy weather on Friday afternoon, with winds ripping off signs, hail and heavy rainfall. According to the police, a lot of the roads flooded slowing traffic down to a halt.

The Larnaca Fire Department responded to around ten calls from people asking for water to be pumped from flooded streets, and residents, as well as rescue people who were trapped in their cars.

Due to the bad weather, a woman was injured when she lost control of her car and crashed into an electricity pole. She was slightly injured.

The fire department also responded to call asking for a billboard to be secured, according to the police report.
