Arrests after church burglary

Two people, aged 30 and 16 were arrested after a burglary in a church in Frenaros in the early hours of Tuesday.

The 16-year-old boy, who was released to face charges at a later date, implicated the first man in the theft from the church’s candle box, police said.

According to police, at around 1.30am a police patrol passing by the church noticed the church door had been broken into and the candle box opened.

They then saw a parked car in the courtyard in which two people were sitting. The older man is from Bulgaria and the teen from Britain.

Searching the car police said they found burglary tools, a number of coins and a small amount of what they believed was cannabis. The amount of money stolen was small as the church is in an isolated area and gets few visitors, police said.
