Heavy duty

A British soldier, aged 39, who was leaving Cyprus through Paphos on Monday night was found to be in possession of 170 cartons of cigarettes for which he had not paid duty, police said.

The cigarettes were spotted when his bags went through security. Customs said the duty to be paid amounted to €6,224, and confiscated the cigarettes until he paid up, after which he was released.
