Baghdatis wins in Acapulco

Cyprus star Marcos Baghdatis registered a rare win in Mexico

Marcos Baghdatis will face fourth seed Grigor Dimitrov in the second round of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel after dismissing local wild card Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela 6-2, 6-4 on Tuesday night in Acapulco.

Against the No.502-ranked Reyes-Varela, the Cypriot notched his third win of the season as he converted four of his eight break points and won 67 per cent of points on serve. He claimed victory in 72 minutes.

Dimitrov also came through the first round in straight sets, beating Marinko Matosevic. The Bulgarian leads their FedEx ATP Head2Head series 4-1, but their last hard court meeting, a year ago in Rotterdam, was a tight three-set contest.
The match is scheduled for third on Grandstand on Wednesday, with play beginning at 4pm local time.

Prior to his Acapulco campaign, Baghdatis was photographed at the beach for Elle Mexico. John Isner and Feliciano Lopez also took part in the photo shoot.
