Limassol buses to strike next Wednesday

DRIVERS from Limassol bus company EMEL have decided to go on an indefinite strike from Wednesday, March 5 after they did not receive their full salary for February.

It was decided during a meeting of the local committees on Thursday.

The decision taken during the general meeting was that the strike would begin from the first working day of next month which would have been Tuesday.

“To avoid further inconveniencing passengers, and due to the three-day weekend and the House Commerce Committee scheduled for Tuesday which will deal with bus companies it was decided that in good faith the strike would begin on Wednesday,” a statement from the bus drivers said.

The statement added that their decision gives all those involved enough time to come to a solution to prevent drivers from going on strike.

“Strike measures will be suspended if EMEL pays its employees their monthly salaries for February,” the statement said.
