Two remanded for series of burglaries

Larnaca District Court on Thursday remanded two Bulgarian men aged 43 and 32 for eight days in connection to a number of burglary and theft cases in Larnaca.

Police were performing a routine check in the Kamares region of Larnaca when they stopped the two men who were in a car at the time. According to reports, officers asked the men what they were doing in the area and after the pair failed to give satisfactory answers, they proceeded to check the boot of their vehicle.

They found various electronic items, shoes, watches, video cameras, food and other items and in a black backpack various pieces of expensive jewellery.

Officers also found a number of tools which could be used to perform robberies, police said.

A number of homes in Larnaca have been burgled recently and police believe the two men are the alleged culprits.

The items which police believe are stolen were taken to Larnaca CID offices and were identified by their owners.

The two men deny any involvement in the burglaries and claim to have come to Larnaca from Limassol in search of a job.

They claim that the burglaries were committed by a Romanian man who came with them from Limassol who placed the stolen items in the car.
