Arsonists hit betting shop in Liopetri

A betting shop in Liopetri was set on fire early on Monday.

Famagusta police said they received a call around 4.30am from the 26-year-old owner that his premises was on fire. He said he had managed to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher before the blaze had spread.

Investigations by the fire services found the it had been set maliciously. The perpetrators had broken the glass on the outer door to gain access and set the fire, which damaged the shop’s counter. The cost of the damage has not yet been calculated, and investigations are ongoing.
