Romanian national dies in car crash

A 28-year-old Romanian man was killed on Saturday night after slamming into the guard rail on the Rizoelia roundabout in Larnaca, police said.

His wife,27, who travelling with him at the time, escaped with minor injuries.

Unlike her husband, police said, she had been wearing her seatbelt.

Just before crashing, the man had failed to stop when flagged down by police because he was doing 140 km per hour instead of 100 km near Koshi.

He then failed to slow down at the roundabout, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the rail.

The 28-year-old was  rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police were looking into whether the man had been driving under the influence of alcohol.
