A 42-year-old Dutch national, was arrested at Larnaca airport on Friday evening in connection with smuggling cocaine in his stomach, police said on Saturday.
The man, who travelled from Amsterdam, arrived at 7.45pm and was immediately picked up by police who had been tipped off.
Police said he had no luggage and a body search came up empty.
But when he was asked to undergo an x-ray test, the suspect refused, police said.
A court order was secured and the man was taken to hospital where a large number of packets containing cocaine were found inside his stomach.
Police said the suspect later admitted that he was carrying cocaine.
He has been remanded in custody for eight days while police search for the recipient of the drugs.
