Biker critically injured in road accident

A biker aged 26 from Paralimni was transferred to Nicos General Hospital from Famagusta in critical condition late Wednesday after being involved in a road accident.

According to police, at around 6.15pm on Wednesday a 47-year-old Greek Cypriot from Paralimni was driving on Cavo Greco-Protaras road, heading to Protaras.

At some stage he went to turn right to enter a supermarket car park and hit the biker. The exact circumstances are being investigated.

The 26-year-old sustained multiple injuries and was hospitalised in critical condition.

Both the car and motorcycle suffered extensive damage. The driver of the car, who was not injured, was tested for alcohol consumption but had not been drinking, police said. The man was also wearing a seat belt while the motorbike rider had no helmet, no licence plate and no insurance, police said.
