Bar review: Ammos Beach Bar, Larnaca

By Andreas Vou

The summer season is almost upon us and the last few weeks of sunshine have put most people in good spirits in anticipation of what awaits in the coming months. While it is not quite the 40-degree heat of mid-July, a spot of good weather and a refreshing drink by the beach is enough to change anybody’s mood – and there are few better places to do that than at Ammos Beach Bar.

Ammos has become the ‘go to’ place on the island and it can accommodate pretty much everyone’s needs, whether it be just a calm afternoon drink or a big sit-down meal with friends.

Its huge outdoor area is the best area to be when the sun is shining with its high wooden tables and stools as well as a few couches dotted around. If you prefer a quieter and calmer setting, the indoor seating area is equally spacious.

The establishment also serves a wide range of dishes including both traditional local foods as well as wide range of other cuisines. Its sushi is among the most acclaimed in town and is certainly worth a try if you are a fan.

Ammos has an incredibly vibrant and upbeat atmosphere at night, with the bar consisting mainly of a young crowd but also a hugely popular spot for people of all ages. In recent years, it has attracted people from all over the island, many who come down to Larnaca specifically for a night out at Ammos.

With summer approaching, it is important to select a bar which does good cocktails, and Ammos certainly fits into that category. If you are not a cocktail fan, then a wide range of bottled beers are available as well as local ones on tap.

It is highly advised that you arrive fairly early, between 9pm and 10:30pm on Friday and Saturday nights, to find seating while the same applies on Sunday afternoons where the outside bar area fills up by about 5pm.
