Construction worker killed on building site

A 33-year-old Romanian construction worker was killed in a workplace accident in Frenaros, Famagusta on Tuesday evening, when the walls of a four-metre-deep trench he was working in collapsed.

The man was employed in the construction of the Frenaros sewage system, when the walls of the trench caved in shortly before 6 pm.

He was pulled from under the rubble by his co-workers and transferred to Famagusta General in critical condition, but doctors were unable to revive him.

Police and Labour Ministry safety officials inspected the scene but have been unable to determine the cause of the collapse as of yet.
