Arrivals down in March

TOURIST arrivals in March 2014 recorded a decrease of 16.3 per cent compared to March 2013, the Cyprus Tourism Organisation has said.

It said the decrease was mainly due to the fact that last year the Catholic Easter was celebrated in March, while this year it is in April, indicating that this year, April’s figures will be up on last year’s.

A CTO press release said that based on the data published by the Cyprus Statistical Service, the number of tourists from the UK recorded a decrease of 22.5 per cent, Germany 41.5 per cent, Greece, 12.6 per cent  and Scandinavian countries 15.8 per cent, on average.

Despite that, arrivals from Russia recorded an increase of 5.8 per cent and France 51.3 per cent.
