A night of song and dance

By Bejay Browne

A TRIPLE BILL of spectacular song and dance is on offer tonight with an evening of professional entertainment.

Organised by Paphos based ‘Talk of the Town’ (TOTT) which stages two such shows a year, the company’s founder, experienced performer, choreographer and vocalist Matthew Edmondson, says all of the shows are original and of a high quality.

“In Paphos the market is being swamped with so many tribute-style acts which are brought in from other countries, in particular the UK. Some are good, but others are of a poor standard and this has an adverse effect on the entertainment market,” he said.

Edmondson says that he ensures the quality of performers in his shows, as he auditions them personally in London. He also writes the shows himself.

“I hand pick the people I work with… I recently carried out auditions for this season at the Dance Attic in Fulham in London.”

The married father of two usually choreographs his productions but will sometimes bring in other professionals to take on this role. “Everything has my stamp on it though,” he said.

The TOTT triple bill will be held at the Pentaras Hall in Chlorokas in Paphos, which has an audience capacity of about 300.

The evening includes three shows; ‘Swingin’ on a Star’ which features the best of swing music with favourites from Frank Sinatra, Etta James and Dean Martin as well as hits from Michael Buble and classic rock tunes with a jazzy twist.

The ‘One Night Only’ song and dance show includes feel good hits from the Blues Brothers, Sister Act, Tina Turner and others. Edmondson will also be performing his popular solo cabaret show.

He said: “It’s a Las Vegas style show, but obviously on a much smaller scale.”

Over the years Edmondson has gained a reputation as one of the leading entertainment vocalists on the island, winning several awards on Trip Advisor and for hotel chains. He has a background in entertainment, including work on cruise ships and for large holiday companies.

“Our show team will also be performing other shows this year at a number of hotels and on the Paphos sea cruises, although the triple bill shows are not performed in any bars around the town. We want to make them more exclusive and something special; they are suitable for all age groups and families,” he said.

A raffle will also be held on the night with the proceeds being donated to the two local charities which the event company supports- the Friends Hospice and the Paphiakos and CCP animal welfare groups.

Advanced booking prices are €10 for adults and €6 for children. Prices on the door are €12 and €7 respectively.
