Two arrested after suitcase full of cigarettes found

Two men, a 46-year old and a 33-year old were arrested at Paphos airport on Sunday, after customs agents found 150 cartons of cigarettes in the 46-year-old’s luggage, police said.

Both men are British nationals and appear to have bought the cigarettes in the north. They were scheduled to board a flight to Manchester.

Upon checking the 46-year-old’s luggage, customs agents discovered the cartons and notified authorities. Both men were arrested and according to the police admitted to their crime, adding that they were planning to smuggle the cigarettes to England.

The cigarettes were confiscated and the men were fined €6,000.
