Underage sex suspects to remain in custody until trial

Larnaca Courthouse

A 57-year old Larnaca businessman and a co-defendant, 35, will remain in custody until their trial on May 30, the Larnaca district court said on Wednesday.

The two men have been detained in connection with the sexual exploitation of two underage girls, 15 and 14, as well as a 19-year old woman.

The 35-year old is also suspected of rape.

On Tuesday, the two were referred to trial before the Criminal Court.

Both men had asked to be released until May 30 but the judge decided that they should remain in custody due to the nature of the case

The prosecution argued that if released, the pair might repeat their alleged crimes or flee the country.

Both men will be transferred to the Central Prison.

Until recently the businessman was under guard at the Larnaca General Hospital, after he complained of headaches and dizziness upon his arrest on April 30.
