Woman seriously injured in car crash

A 61-year-old woman was seriously injured after her car hit an olive tree on Monday afternoon in the Ayia Varvara area in the Nicosia district.

Under circumstances being investigated by police, the woman lost control of her car while driving on the Ayia Varvara road towards Mathiatis and entered a field where her car hit an olive tree.

The woman suffered a ruptured right abdomen and was rushed to Nicosia general hospital where she underwent surgery.

She is in the intensive care unit and according to medical staff, her condition is serious but stable.

Pera-Chorio police station is investigating the accident.
