A 64-YEAR-OLD was arrested at Paphos airport customs early on Thursday, when he was found to be carrying over 7,000 Ecstasy pills, police announced on Thursday.

In a statement, police said that the drug enforcement unit had a tip that a person travelling to Cyprus from Brussels would be carrying a large quantity of drugs. After identifying the suspect at around 12:55 am, unit members in cooperation with customs officials X-rayed his luggage and found a package inserted into his suitcase’s lining, containing over 7,000 ecstasy pills bearing the “power on/off” logo.

The suspect, 64, was in possession of travel documents from Germany, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.

Police noted that this is the largest quantity of pills confiscated to date.

The suspect was set to appear before the Paphos District Court on Thursday, which would decide whether he would be remanded pending further investigation.
