BoC braces for ex-Laiki migration problems

By Constantinos Psillides

BANK of Cyprus (BoC) has urged all of its customers to contact the 1bank online call centre at 800 00 800 in case they run into a problem using an ATM over the long weekend.

BoC initiated the procedure to start migrating ex-Laiki Bank accounts to its electronic systems yesterday and despite preparation, problems are expected to arise according, to BoC spokesperson Costas Archmandritis.

“We have taken all precautions to make this transition as uneventful as possible but problems always arise from where you least expect it. We have set up a call centre that will be staffed by operators throughout the long weekend. We ask anyone who comes across a problem to give us a call so we can sort it through and fix it,” he told the Cyprus Mail.

Because of the move, the bank said certain transactions — transfer between own accounts, transfers to Bank of Cyprus customers, multiple payments — will not be available through the online 1bank platform between the afternoon today to Monday.

Archimandritis added that withdrawing cash from ATMs should not be a problem throughout the migration process. “But in case there is, we are here to help our clients”.

Some problems were reported in the Nicosia district, with people contacting the Cyprus Mail to complain that they couldn’t use ATMs.
