Boy in murder-suicide serious but stable

THE 14-YEAR-OLD sole survivor of Wednesday’s murder suicide in Nicosia is on a ventilator but in a stable condition, according to head of the intensive care unit (ICU) at Nicosia general hospital, Dr Theodoros Kyprianou.
Asked by reporters on Thursday whether the child is out of danger, Kyprianou said it is impossible to answer that so long as the patient is on a ventilator.
The ICU head said he plans to take the teenager off the ventilator later on Thursday.
The child is the sole survivor of his father’s murder rampage on Wednesday afternoon, which resulted in the deaths of both his parents and his nine-year-old sister. The father, 41-year-old self-employed Andreas Pittis, shot and killed his estranged wife Margarita, 35, and his 9-year old daughter, possibly due to a family dispute.
The man shot his wife through the windshield of her car using his military issue G3 rifle. He then shot his daughter while she was trying to exit the car and chased down his son to a nearby plot where Pittis shot him twice from behind, injuring his lung and leg. Standing over his son’s body, the man then took his own life.
