While Larnaca has come in for criticism for being too pretentious and unoriginal, credit must be given where it is due – the town has upped its game of late in regard to its selection of bars. Old Market St. near St. Lazarus’ church only opened in April but is fast becoming one of Larnaca’s hotspots.
That area in particular has seen a rise of more down to earth and cultured establishments which almost seem to be rebelling in their own way against the ‘mainstream’ cafes that the Finikoudes has to offer.
Despite a few recent showers, summer is well and truly upon us and for those who aren’t really into the summer beach bars vibe, Old Market offers an alternative without sacrificing quality of products or service.
When it comes to originality of drinks, there is no better place in the town at the moment. Old Market produces its own unique recipes every few days meaning that there is no chance of getting bored of what’s on offer.
The furniture both inside and out gives for a more old-fashioned feel with simple wooden chairs and tables, a rare sight in Larnaca but also nice to see that more effort is put into the products sold than the interior.
While cocktails and beer are the most popular drinks at this time of the year, the most important year-round medicine is also offered in various forms – frappes, mochas, freddos and all other types of coffees are available. If you fancy a bite, there are a number of interesting platters to choose from as well as vegetarian options.
The bar attracts predominantly young adults but welcomes people of all ages. There really is something for everyone’s taste at this new bar which is set to escalate in popularity as the months roll on.
