Cushions containing €16,000 stolen

A 78-year-old woman had stashed €16,000 in cash inside cushions, which were stolen from her home in Limassol, police said.

Police said the cash had been hidden inside the cushions, which were then sewn shut. They were located in the living room.

Authorities have arrested the woman’s housemaid.

The complaint was lodged on Wednesday evening, police said.

In a separate case, a Peyia resident reported to police that his house was burgled and a safe containing jewellery worth €80,000 was stolen.

The small safe was located in the bedroom, the man told police on Thursday.

He said that €5,000 worth of jewellery stashed in draws in the bedroom was also stolen.
