One dead, one injured after separate weekend road accidents

A 77-year-old man died on Sunday after his vehicle was involved in a collision on Saturday night in Limassol

The pensioner, Giorgos Tsiampos was driving along Limassol’s Makarios Avenue on Saturday night when he veered off course and collided with a car driven by a 59-year-old woman.

Both drivers were taken to hospital. Tsiampos had sustained a ruptured spleen and underwent surgery but succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. The female driver of the other car was not seriously injured.

In another accident on Sunday evening, a 34-year-old biker from Kornos was injured in an accident when his motorcycle was hit by a car driven by a 22-year-old from Psevda village. The accident happened at around 8.30pm. The biker sustained multiple fractures after being thrown from his vehicle. He is currently at the Nicosia General Hospital. Neither the biker nor the driver had been drinking, police said, but added that is appeared the driver of the bike was not wearing a helmet. The car driver, who was not injured, had been wearing a seat belt.
