CPI driven up in June by dearer veg, phone charges and electricity

The Consumer Price Index in June increased by 0.34 units or 0.29 per cent to 118.37 units compared to 118.03 in May.  This was mainly due to increases in the prices of certain fresh vegetables, certain telephone charges and electricity.  A decrease has been recorded in the price of potatoes.

The rate of inflation for June decreased -1.2 per cent compared to -1.4 per cent  in May  and +0.1 per cent in June 2013.

For the period January-June 2014, the CPI recorded a decrease of -2.0 per cent compared to the corresponding period of 2013.
