Lefkaritis’ assets frozen ahead of civil suit

LARNACA DISTRICT criminal court has decided to expand a decree freezing all of Akis Lefkaritis’ assets, pending a civil suit filed against him by a 15-year-old girl for sexual harassment.

Lefkaritis, 57, was sentenced on June 24 to 12 years in jail by the Larnaca district court, after pleading guilty to charges of sexually exploiting two girls, aged 14 and 15. A second man involved in the same investigation, Nicos Nicolaou, 35, was sentenced to 10 years in jail.

The family of the 15-year-old has filed a civil suit against Lefkaritis asking for €500,000 to €2 million in damages.

The court decided that Lefkaritis’ assets will remain frozen until the civil suit trial concludes.

While both girls were expected to file a suit against Lefkaritis, to date only the family of the 15-year-old has.

The two men were arrested on April 30 after the 15-year-old girl reported to the police that she had been raped and beaten by Nicolaou.

She told police she met the 35-year-old on Facebook and arranged to meet him, only to be kidnapped and taken to his apartment. In the suit, the girl claims that Nicolaou forced her to have sex and snort cocaine.

A second girl, 14, came to the man’s apartment and had asked to be paid for sexual services, police were told.

Nicolaou took both girls to an apartment in Larnaca where they were joined by Lefkaritis who also had with sex them.

Lefkaritis admitted before court that when it came to the 14-year-old girl, he had had sex with her 18 times in the span of one year.
