THE Nicosia Municipality’s planning is on the right track, Communications and Works minister Marios Demetriades said yesterday after the capital’s mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis presented plans for a general overhaul of infrastructure projects.

The plan, which includes urban, transport and environmental projects, aims to improve the image of the town’s centre.

“It is not pretty and the necessary remedies need to be taken,” Demetriades said, adding that the ministry has its role to play in the effort undertaken by the Nicosia municipality in order to be able to fulfil this goal.

Demetriades also said that the cultural and economic revitalisation of the capital will be achieved with everyone’s cooperation.

Yiorkadjis said that the goal of the new planning is to contribute to the much coveted economic development and to the town’s revitalisation.

He also said that within a week, the ‘Nicosia Area Plan’ will be presented to the Planning Council and that he hoped that the project will be supported by the government.
