Two more people die in road accidents

Stelios Sarandis

Two 20-year-old men died on Friday evening in separate traffic accidents in Larnaca and Ayia Napa.

Stylianos Sarandis from Larnaca was killed after he apparently lost control of his motorcycle on the Aradhippou industrial estate roundabout at around 10.30pm.

The bike hit the pavement, throwing Sarandis and his passenger, an 18-year-old man from Larnaca, off. The two men had not been wearing crash helmets.

The 18-year-old suffered head injuries and is being treated in hospital in serious condition.

The second incident happened less than an hour later on Makronissos Street in Ayia Napa.

A man died after he was crushed under the rear wheels of a bus. The man, believed to have been drunk, stepped into the road while the bus was passing by, reports said.

Authorities had not managed to determine the Caucasian man’s identity by Saturday morning. They believe he is a foreign national, around 20-years-old.

Friday’s incidents have raised the death toll from traffic accidents to seven in one week.

A 76-year-old man died on Thursday after a drunk driver crashed her car into his. His wife,84, was seriously injured.

Two teenagers were killed last Saturday in separate accidents in Nicosia, and another two, a woman,26, and a 48-year-old man, again in separate incidents in Nicosia and Limassol on Tuesday.
