Discussion on UNFICYP resolution kicks off

UNFICYP has been in Cyprus since 1964

Discussions began on Tuesday evening at the UN headquarters in New York on the British draft resolution on the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

The Cyprus News Agency reported that the discussions are taking place in a good atmosphere and various proposals have been put forward by both permanent and non-permanent members of the UN SC.

It is expected that there will be an agreement on the draft by Friday.

The discussions will be renewed Thursday when UNSG Special Representative in Cyprus Lisa Buttenheim briefs the SC members via a teleconference.

The meeting to adopt the resolution has been set for July 30.
