Boost for car registrations in first half of 2014

The total number of registrations of motor vehicles during the first six months of 2014 increased by 20,9% to 11.190 from 9.258 vehicles during the same period of 2013, according to data released today by the Statistical Service.

Private saloon cars increased to 8.414, from 6.627 in January–June 2013, recording an increase of 27%. Just under half (4,019) of the private saloon cars registered were new.

Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 12,1% to 936 in 2014, compared to 835 in 2013.
Light goods vehicles increased by 16,5% to 789, from 677 in 2013.

Heavy goods vehicles decreased by 22,9% to 91 in January-June 2014, from 118 in 2013.

Road tractors (units of trailers) increased by 40,0% to 56 in January-June 2014, from 40 in January-June 2013.

Mopeds

Mechanised cycles (greater than 50cc power) increased by 27,5% to 1.072 in January-June 2014, compared to 841 in January-June 2013.
