FM urges Cypriots in Libya to leave

The recent violence in Libya has forced the Cyprus Foreign Ministry to issue a Travel Advice against travelling to Libya

The Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a Travel Advice, urging Cypriots not to travel to Libya and advising Cypriots residing in the country to leave as quickly and as safely as possible.

“The citizens of the Republic of Cyprus are advised against all travel to Libya, as the security situation continues to deteriorate. All Cypriot citizens who reside in the country, are advised to inform the Cypriot competent Authorities (see below for contact details) on their current status, and are advised to leave the country as quickly and safely as possible,” the Cypriot FM notes.

In case of emergency, Cypriot citizens can contact the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Libya or the Duty Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on +35 7 99660129, the Crisis Management Department on +35 7 22801000, or the Consular Affairs Department at the MFA on +35 7 22651108.

Canada is also temporarily pulling its diplomats out of conflict-torn Libya due to fears about their safety, Foreign Minister John Baird said on Tuesday.
