Murder trial for elderly husband and sister of dead woman

The murder scene at Kritou Terra on July 23

THE HUSBAND and sister of a 78-year-old woman found dead in her yard in the Paphos village of Kritou Terra will be tried for murder by the criminal court, which will convene on September 16.

Euripides Christou, 83, and Georgia Christophorou, 77, will remain in custody until the trial, the Paphos district court decided on Monday.
The two suspects deny any involvement in the case.

Aliki Christophorou was found dead in her yard on July 23, covered with a blanket. She had an injury on the forehead thought to have been caused by a blow with a heavy object.

At the time, Christou went to hospital with wounds to his face. He claimed that the three of them had been attacked by thieves the previous night, but he had not reported the incident to the police.

The sister, who lives in the USA but had been staying in Cyprus for the past year, also had wounds on her face but claims she got them after a fall.

It is thought that the three had differences over property matters.
