A 67-year-old man was remanded by the Larnaca District Court for six days after police found seven full grown cannabis plants in his garden, police said on Wednesday.

According to the police report, the drug squad followed a tip saying that there were cannabis plants in a fenced garden at Pano Lefkara village.

The officers found seven cannabis plants, ranging from two to three and a half metres in height, police said.

They placed the site under surveillance and at around noon on Tuesday a car was spotted approaching the garden. Police arrested the man on the spot. He turned out to be a 67-year-old man from Kalo Chorio village.

According to the report, police carried out a search of the man’s home that yielded a number of dried out cannabis leaves.

The pensioner is under investigation for illegal cultivation of cannabis with the intent to distribute and of possessing illegal substances.
