Leaders’ next meeting to be decided during Eide visit

The date for the next meeting of the two leaders will be discussed with the news UN Secretary-General`s Special Adviser Espen Barth Eide during the separate meetings he will have with the island’s two leaders.

Eide will be in Cyprus from September 5-8. The leaders had been due to meet on Tuesday but the meeting was postponed in the light of Eide’s visit.

During his visit, he will meet  President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu, according to Michel Bonnardeaux, the spokesperson of the Good Offices Mission in Cyprus.

Bonnardeaux told the Cyprus News Agency on Wednesday that  the Norwegian diplomat would hold consultations with the UN team participating in the negotiations. On Saturday he will have separate meetings with the two sides negotiators, Greek Cypriot Andreas Mavroyiannis and Turkish Cypriot Kudret Ozersay.

On Friday he will be informed about the UN peace keeping operation in Cyprus and visit the buffer zone to see how UNFICYP operates on the ground, accompanied by the new Force Commander Major General Kristin Lund, who is also Norwegian.

Bonnardeaux said that no joint meeting between Eide and the two sides had been scheduled.
