Betting shop gutted in Larnaca

A betting shop in Larnaca was burnt down in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

Police had to evacuate apartments over a betting shop on Zakintos Street after they received the call at 3.30am that a fire had broken out.

Some of the police officers at the scene had to be treated for respiratory problems after they got everyone out of the building as the fire department worked on putting out the blaze.

In addition to the ground-floor betting shop and first floor being gutted, the apartments on the other two floors suffered serious damage.

According to the report, the fire appears to have been an arson attack.
