Remand for theft couple

A ROMANIAN couple have been remanded by the Paphos District Court in connection with investigations into the theft of money from a Paphos-based food company.

The owner of the company reported to police on Wednesday that €79,000, placed inside two nylon bags, were stolen from his office. The money was the sum of the company’s earnings the last three days.

A 28-year-old employee of the company, considered a suspect in the theft, was found by police attempting to leave Larnaca airport for Bucharest, along with his 26-year-old partner.

During a search of the couple’s luggage, the authorities found €9,670, for which the couple allegedly failed to give satisfactory explanations as to how they came to possess this amount.

The 28-year-old was remanded in custody for eight days while the 26-year-old was issued with a four-day remand by the Paphos court.

Paphos CID is investigating the case.
